Can a young girl’s dreams affect the world? In the new century the answer is simple and quite evident: YES!
The world is following a girl who has a very deep passion for her rights. -Malala Yousufzai. She is a brave education activist from Pakistan. Her vision is to teach us yet again about the importance of female education.
Her story began with her blog on BBC website about living under the Taliban. The idea came from her very dauntless and unorthodox father and she was only 11 years old when she started writing. She wrote in Urdu. Her region, Swat Valley, was controlled by the Taliban and they applied their austere interpretation of laws. They banned music and television, as well as education for women! She described her life under Taliban rules and her unhappiness and her greatest desire to become a doctor. Taliban destroyed 150 schools and stopped education for women. She was persistent on women’s education as she realized its importance and she campaigned for women education rights on her blog. First she wrote anonymously and used the name Gul Makai but after she got famous and received some peace prizes her identity was revealed.
She is a audacious and outright girl and has the ability to speak out the truth fearlessly. She struggled for children's Education in her region Swat. She struggled when the militants were fighting against Pakistan Army in Swat and were banning girls' schools in Swat.On 9 October 2012, a Taliban gunman shot Yousafzai as she rode home on a bus after taking an exam. The masked gunman shouted "Which one of you is Malala? Speak up, otherwise I will shoot you all",and, on her being identified, shot at her. She was hit with one bullet, which went through her head, neck, and ended in her shoulder. After multiple surgeries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. On 3 January 2013, Yousafzai was discharged to continue her rehabilitation and today she stands as the ultimate epitome of courage, determination, tolerance and wisdom.
How many of us ever knew about this gallant and undaunted girl of 16??
Today Malala has garnered international attention for all her intrepid and unflinching activities with regard to women’s education. On 12 July 2013, Malala ‘s16th birthday, she spoke at the UN to call for worldwide access to education. The UN dubbed the event "Malala Day". It was her first public speech since the attack, leading the first ever Youth Takeover of the UN, with an audience of over 500 young education advocates from around the world. These are her words that stand etched in my memory till date……"The terrorists thought they would change my aims and stop my ambitions, but nothing changed in my life except this: weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was born ... I am not against anyone, neither am I here to speak in terms of personal revenge against the Taliban or any other terrorist group. I'm here to speak up for the right of education for every child. I want education for the sons and daughters of the Taliban and all terrorists and extremists.”
She has won numerous awards for her efforts and the most notable being the nomination for the nobel peace prize.her book ‘I AM MALALA‘ tells us all about her life and her hopes and aspirations.it’s a must read inspirational book.
Lets all support this noble and sagacious girl - Malala…And also ponder how many of us would be the reason behind a whole saga of awareness and knowledge...
