The Wildlife

India has a long history of conservation of national parks and protected areas from as long as 1935. In fact, the Indian constitution specifies it shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife. In 1952, the Indian Constitution set up the Indian Board of Species. Today, the country has 600 protected areas with ministry of environment and forest working with the objective of protecting wildlife, poaching, smuggling and illegal trade in wildlife through the landmark Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
